 Post Subject: Guerilla Gardening

Hi guys,

One of the things which inspired me to start meet ups was a story about Todmorden here in the UK

http://www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk/

Video

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/video/2010/oct/19/incredible-edible-todmorden

Starting small, I have had a practice run last year as I hadn't really grown much veg previously only things like herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, beetroot, radishes. Last year I had a go at carrots, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower. Some were a disaster, but I learnt a lot.

The idea is now I have seeds growing is to go wider afield. I have started pinching a little bit of ground outside my property. I am hoping that the tomatoes I have planted will give me enough to go planting them randomly in safe but obvious places.

So here is the first of piccy's of my garden as it was about 6 weeks ago

The first photo is of the area I am aiming to 'aquire'!

The second is of the raised beds I installed last year with just enough room to get my flymo around...hate hoovering grass!

My greenhouse where most life begins:D
Guerilla Gardening Ejcxle

My ittsy bittsy front garden which is about to get blitsed! I am going to try and save as many shrubs as possible and sell them at th car boot. I am aiming to get tomatoes growing by the windows and maybe some carrots between me and next door. The front garden is not fenced in...so I am hoping come people will be 'cheeky' enough to come help themselves

A lot has been going on in the garden since I took those photos. I am going to take some more and make them smaller (!) with updates of what's where etc.

Yeah spot on idea Jane umbsup

I've not got a 'garden' as such...just a rather restricted back yard. But I have put some flower beds & pots etc in in an attempt to green up this inner-city hellhole lol.

& it does face south at least, so a few veggies...why not? Guerilla Gardening 3936495082

If I can keep the goddam slugs off em of course.... Evil or Very Mad

I feel quite jealous of people with gardens.....only having a balcony. Sad

But, when I move further out of London in a couple of months time..... I'm going to try my hardest to get one ......however small. Cool

Makes all the difference to the quality of city life having a little green sanctuary of your own doesn't it..

Yes it does make a difference. I have a massive park not far from me, but it's just not the same as having your own garden.

I'm a country girl, but didn't appreciate it when I was younger......couldn't wait to get to the big city and all it had to offer.

Now all I want is peace and tranquility in the 'kind of country'.......with a garden. 1514204

I'm not good with plants either......I'm ashamed to say that I usually only remember to water them when they look like they're dying. Guerilla Gardening 4200685455

Mind, saying that I've had most of my plants for about 4 yrs...so I can't be that bad. rabbit

I have quite a large garden out back and intend to plant vedge this year.

I set a 'butterfly' garden up at the front of my house last year to encourage butterflies, bees and other beasties. So far so good, I have a well established buddleia and sew all my flowers from seed indoors before transplanting them.

I like wildflowers and plant them from seed every year,
I keep a patch out front for nettles and dandelions as I like to use the young leaves and shoots in salads and to make teas with.I plan to get a cherry blossom tree this year to hang some bird feeders. I feed the birds all through the winter, and love hearing them sing.

If you want veg..you are going to need to be planting now P...otherwise you will only be left with herbs, tomato plant from garden centre and lettuce! Waiting until May doesn't make much difference even up in Scotland.

I grow flowery bits between stuff, helps a bit with keeping pests away. I also do companion planting...ie 'sweet 'n' sour'...carrots with chives. Same principal basically as dandelions can always be found within 50ft of nettles. Anything that's 'poisonous', the antidote can be found within 50ft.

Can't you make a specific dog run? Or plant things in raised beds and pots?
