Carstairs a place of incarceration for the criminally insane, a different ball game altogether. I've met a lady who worked in that place, one of the most switched on women I've ever met. She had a real understanding of the system and how it can suck peope in, then punish them when they 'breach' the rules that were put in place without forethought and compassion. Is Carstairs a male only institution? |

| I believe it is now, but in the 70s 80s they had a female wing, as you pointed out and I should have been more clear in the fact almost all were classed as criminally insane but in the early days it was brutal, I worked in secure for a good part of my nursing career, went on to specialist dementia care. |

Cool, you would've got a good grounding working there. I've worked as a practical nurse in the past , couldn't do it now though I'm out of touch with it all. |

| these skills never ever go away they just become dormant and are there when needed, when I am confronted with a situation instead of the usual throw yourself in feet first I assess as I approach and deal with it with the minimum of fuss or drama |

| Come to think of it you guys are right, , I've had quite a few wounded weans at my door over the years looking to get patched up. I think remaining calm outwardly goes a long way to reassuring them, as the sight of blood has some kids (and adults) either faint or hysterical. It's the prospect of having to work with the N.H.S again that I'd have the problem with, it's in such a turmoil just now and good nurses are being overworked and disillusioned by the system. |
